Clouds Continued

Well, the first step is apparently registering an account on SS's website to keep track of which serial you have. I expected this as I read it will be one of those "you must be connected at all times" thing.

Well, whatever. The thing that was amusing is, this thing actually has a full patcher-login-server selection crap.

First time it kicked me out due to the patch not being correct, meh.

Well, the patcher won't even load, it'll just crash the program. I knew something like this would happen. Luckily, there's a manual patch, so DLing that.

Still amused by this full MMO-like thing.

Logged in. The Intro about the 3 kingdoms was completely reused from HC, but I'm not complaining. I can't think of another way to write that opening anyway.

Everything else handles the same, the music's the same, even that annoying fixed camera is the same. Though I read the effects get screwed at certain camera angles, so I guess it's livable, still, you have no idea how many times I right click drag thinking it can rotate.

The story is about... 1-2 years before HC, but since most of you never played HC, this prob won't matter. The main character is pretty much a white-haired clone of the HC protag that strangely reminds me of Rufus Shinra, but I'll let you be the judge of that. You learn that he doesn't have much memories and was picked on frequently. Not only that, but his talents for swords is apparently though the roof. You also have a girlfriend, who is obviously the covergirl for the DLC.

Well, screw that for now. The battle system's pretty much the same as last time. ATB, except there's two rows (instead of vanguard and rearguard). The positioning affects attack and defense. More of an annoyance than anything.

You also start with 3 sword users instead of two casters, an archer and two spears like HC, which is... lol. Lanyin however is obviously a healer sword instead of an actual sword.

The ultimate skill charge is now shown as a number (instead of a progress bar), which is a semi-improvement I guess. Still a pain though and the damage is shit.

Lanyin's ultimate - Jade Kirin's Reflection. Summons the clouds on the back of the legendary kirin to cleanse the world. Full heals team (except for MP) and ressurects any dead ones. Meh. Either overkill or not enough. This should have been a regular skill, IMO.

Zhang Gao's ultimate - Rainbow World Breaker. Slashes so fast it appears to break the world apart. Most useful one, imo, esp since he gets hit a lot, deals damage to one enemy.

Muyun's ultimate - Focused Conquering Sword. Focuses his sword energy to blast all enemies. Damage isn't bad, certainly useful for wiping out swaths of enemies at once, but still feels like its power is only comparable to a bigger skill instead of the ultimate.

As for the actual story... This sums it up pretty nicely.

Yeah, this story is some of the sappiest love story mixed with idealism as you can get. Kinda amazing how much he chilled in HC though. I don't even want to describe it.

Anyway, I'm a quarter done with this game, will update more as I see more interesting things.
